North American TB-25J Mitchell
44-31183      29 January 1946
Will Rogers Field, Oklahoma

This diagram from the crash report shows the route of the short flight.  "Chicasha (sic) Highway" is todays Meridian Avenue.

When the airplane took off, the engines were producing barely enough thrust to keep the bird flying.  The pilot attempted to return to the field, but they hit the ground short and slid into this pond, one-half mile from the end of the runway.

This aerial shows the pond prominent in the lower right.  Aerial Photograph March 1951 © Ace Aerial Photography, Oklahoma City.
